Rome Total War Alexander This game falls into the real-time strategy
This game falls into the real-time strategy genre combined with turn-based elements. You’ll need to plan massive tactics on the campaign map and lead real-time battles on the battlefield.
### Story / Plot
The story revolves around the journey of Alexander the Great, the King of Macedonia, starting from his youth. You’ll relive his expeditions to conquer the Persian Empire, invade India, and expand his dominion over much of the known world at that time. Unlike the main campaign in **ROME: Total War**, the campaign in this expansion is much more linear and historically driven. Each campaign step is based on real events, and your success heavily relies on efficiency due to limited time and resources.
### Gameplay
On the campaign map, you’ll control Alexander’s forces in a more confined area compared to the main game, focusing primarily on Greece, Persia, and India. The game encourages a fast-paced, aggressive playstyle since success hinges on your speed of expansion. In real-time battles, you’ll lead thousands of troops, including heavy infantry with the iconic Macedonian phalanx formation, elite cavalry, and other Hellenistic military units.
Enemy AI is adaptive, with the Persians often relying on sheer numbers and deadly archer units. The campaign also includes a time limit of 100 turns, adding pressure and urging you to move forward without much downtime. Alexander is the only crucial general in the game, and if he dies, it’s game over. This adds an extra layer of challenge in keeping the main character safe.
### Level Design and Missions
The level and mission design in this game is highly structured and intense. Each conquered region introduces new challenges, whether they arise from geography, enemy defenses, or the composition of opposing forces. Some missions are based on major historical battles, like the Battle of Granicus and Gaugamela, adding educational value while also presenting realistic challenges.
### Graphics
In terms of graphics, **ROME: Total War – Alexander** offers a pretty impressive look for 2006 standards. The animations of troops, battlefield collision effects, and environmental details like dust and fire are presented in a cinematic manner. The user interface and illustrations drawn in a classic Greek art style help create an authentic historical atmosphere.
For the mobile version, you can expect similar engaging elements tailored for touch controls.
